Is the world making progress in reducing plastic pollution?

Slowly, yes. Plastic production continues to rise, but awareness and action are growing. Dozens of countries have banned single-use plastics, and businesses are adopting alternatives. The EU, for example, banned plastic straws, plates, and cutlery in 2021. Cleanup initiatives like The Ocean Cleanup project are removing tons of plastic from waterways. Media literacy is important to cut through despair-driven narratives and recognize these steps. Evidence shows momentum toward reducing plastic waste, though systemic change is still needed to solve the global plastic crisis.
